HISCI Holds 2014 Annual Member Meeting: New Governance Structure Approved, and Committee Members Needed

On October 15, HISCI members held their annual meeting during the Healthcare Supply Chain Expo in Washington, DC. HISCI Chair Todd Ebert, President and CEO of Amerinet, discussed 2014’s many successes and the exciting challenges that lie ahead—and how HISCI  member suppliers have the opportunity to drive change, by sitting at the table with GPOs to discuss inefficiencies in the supply chain and how HISCI and HSCA can collaborate to solve these problems.

HISCI Vice-Chair Amy Rhine-Pallas with Abbott, presided over approval of the 2015 board slate, which was approved at the meeting. The biggest change to the slate was the new governance structure. As of January 1, 2015, a supplier will serve in the role of HISCI Chair for the first time in the organization's history. Since its inception, HISCI has been chaired by the immediate past chair of HSCA, meaning a GPO has always served as HISCI Chair.

Starting January 1, the chair of HISCI will be a supplier. GPOs will still have a major role on the board, but the overall direction will be driven by a supplier.

The first supplier to serve in this role will be Amy Rhine-Pallas from Abbott, who has been serving as HISCI Vice Chair and has been a strong voice for growth, strategic development, and representing our members.

From the GPO perspective, HISCI members voted to add two new members to the board.  Darrel Weatherford with HealthTrust and Pete Allen with Novation.

HISCI Secretary John Eppard with Sanofi, Ash Luthra with LSL Industries, and Ron Hartmann with MedAssets were also extended through 2016,

HISCI Executive Director Mike Copps gave a summary of 2014 and a look ahead to 2015, with a focus on new educational offerings including the new Navigating the GPO Landscape modules and continuation of monthly rotating educational modules.

Additionally, the announcement of two new HISCI committees--Education & Membership--were officially announced. More information regarding how to get involved in these committees will be available in the coming weeks.

In short: 2014 has been a success, and HISCI leadership is determined to build on that success in 2015. We need your help. Keep spreading the word on HISCI, and let us know what HISCI can do to provide you with the best return on your investment.
